The Economic Development Strategy clearly stated that a the Community Area must develop a vibrant and stable retail offering, to acquire and retain the business of local residents, and to attract custom from outside the area.
Tidworth and District Chamber of Commerce selected and engaged and experienced team from the University of Bournemouth to research the status of retail offering in the Community Area, The likely cachment area for local retail businesses; The retail needs of the people within that area. Also to develop a medium term strategy to develop a valued and sustainable retail offering within the Community Area.
In summary, this strategy proposes complementary offerings for Tidworth and Ludgershall. Ludgershall can offer a traditional village shopping environment and Tidworth can provide the ‘High Street' retail experience.
As a result, we now have a modern street scene in Tidworth, with a Tesco superstore, a range of new retail units and a further development in the planning stage at the top of Station Road. Attention now needs to focus on attracting an appropriate mix of retailers to the two main centres in the Community Area.
